Sabor a Luz was born in February 2022 in Puerto Rico, inspired by Natasha Ortiz Seize’s dream of opening a restaurant that honors her grandmother Luz—affectionately known as Doña Luz. Most of our recipes come directly from her kitchen, with others lovingly created by Natasha and her mother.
We started cooking for Sabor a Luz in Monserrate Towers, Carolina, Puerto Rico, where we operated for 5 to 6 months before continuing to refine our concept. In August 2023, our family relocated to Arlington, Texas, and quickly realized there was a gap—authentic Puerto Rican cuisine was missing from the local dining scene. While Cuban and other Latin spots exist, there was no true comida criolla puertorriqueña to enjoy with family and friends.
Sabor a Luz aims to fill that void, offering a warm, family-friendly space where guests can celebrate birthdays, enjoy traditional Puerto Rican dishes, sip island-inspired drinks, and experience live music—salsa, merengue, and more. We want every visit to feel like stepping into your grandmother’s home: comforting, lively, and full of flavor.
Our mission is not just to serve delicious food, but to preserve our family’s culinary legacy and share it with the world. Long term, we envision Sabor a Luz as a franchise of Puerto Rican restaurants across the United States and the Caribbean, all guided by our core values: family, honesty, integrity, and a commitment to making guests feel at home.
